a world of interesting factoids about nothing and everything

strawberry special operations center 2003 @ 05:32 pm

I'm sitting here in Strawberry using dial up for the first time in a while. Just got done making some more no bake cookies which rock I might add. I can't figure it out though, my mom never added cocoa and they seem to turn out better with it added. Doesn't make sense to me. Oh well, not much makes sense these days.

I've made it to Arizona, the trip was very uneventful, we found the blue diamond at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, and we headed up to Payson, the town about 20 miles from here. It was already 95 degrees by the time we made it out of the Phoenix City Limits, so I was very glad to get out of there. We got there to Payson, I was born there I might add, about two hours later and then my Grandma and Grandpa came to the airport to pick me up. I was amazed and surprised that Grandpa came as he hasn't been feeling too great lately. He had a pace maker put in about two or three months ago and he's been a bit more weak than usual. Of course he had to be "dragged off his ladder" to come so I don't know about this too weak thing. Seems a bit of a weird thing to me but there's lots weird about Strawberry, Arizona :).

Strawberry is located in the Mogollon Rim (Pronounced Mug Ee Own) area of Arizona. Its about 100 miles north of Hell, I mean Phoenix, and its so much cooler than there. Today for instance it was about 112 degrees, here it was 95. When its 95 with no humidity it is heaven let me tell you. Lots of other people from the Valley came to visit because they had the same idea and I was no stranger to this activity beingborn here. My Grandma and Grandpa Romey live here and have for as long as I can remember. Well actually, they lived near Phoenix and owned sheep for a while and that I can remember, but they've always had ta cabin to stay in, now they have a house and enjoy it very much. The town is very small, about 2000 permanent residents and that's without the summer influx of Phoenecians.

Being a small town, My grandpa and Grandma Romey know everyone, or at least they think they do. They spend their days relaxing on the swing on the porch (if they're not doing other things) drinking coffee and watching the neighborhood. They call it watching, I call it surveillance. We had to even go on a spying mission today when we picked up the mail to see just was going on up the road. They know everything about everyone and they love it. I think it rocks, Special Agent Ralph and Dotty at your service.

I've not been doing much of merit lately but just relaxing myself. My mom will be getting here tomorrow so I'll have to remember not to belch too loud with my Grandpa and we probably won't be able to relax as much as we'd think we can now. On Thursday, we're going to go down to the valley and start preparing for my Grandma's eightieth. My mom's video project (she's making a DVD of memories) is going well, and she's got one bit to go. I'm sure she will love it.

The crab and fireworks were top notch on The Fourth of July even though we hurt our hands and got tired before we got through all of the crab. Well, I suppose I should go and surveil some more and drink a beer with Grandpa whose I am sure out there now. We're going to have some awesome pork chops tonight which I'm looking forward too. It's always good to come here, I eat so much :). More later.
