Re: The Land of Opportunity

I should have included that the year that we came there, I can't remember if it was '92 or '93, Arkansas won the national basketball championship. We still have some of the special edition glass Coke bottles that they issued.

Yeah, I'm kind of glad that they don't play the Indians all the time, especially since, at times, the Indians play very well. Note the game between ASU and Texas where Texas almost lost.

It's good to talk to people who have lived in Arkansas fo so long, most people are natives in Arkansas whereas in Arizona most are not, because in all seriousness, I didn't live in Arkansas for maybe 12 or 13 years in total. Now, I'm proably going to live in Tennessee for a while at least, but I'm not going to let the Vols convert me. The fans that support Arkansas seem to be more friendly to the other team. Vol fans are extremely rude, especially to Florida fans. I thought that they would be mean to me when I moved here because I was a Razorback fan, and they are when they beat us, but they are really actually some of the nicest people I've met. Arkansans are nice, but still ... I didn't think that Vol fans could be. I was wrong there.

I graduated in '93 and was still in town when the Razorbacks won the championship. I remember the crowds celebrating down on Dickson St. Good times =)

I should have leff it like I had it the first time, I originally had '92 as when I came to Arkansas, but then changed it to '93. Not sure. I just have no idea how people are going to vote on these entries. Kind of hard to be too creative with this, that and I haven't been "playing" the game of socialization and getting lots of friends. Oh well, all I can do is continue to wrtite and if people don't like my entry, then so be it.

I remember when Arkansas beat Tennessee in 1999 and they carried the goal posts down Dixen. I lived in Gregson at the time, and they carried it right in front of the dorm. Lots of partying went on, I just hid out in my room.

While having the big friends list helps, that tends to grow during the course of the contest anyway. The factors most likely to assure a win are (1) Being very open and self-revealing in the entries (2) being able to write interesting stuff well -- always a plus in any contest -- and (3) big friends list, either growing throughout the contest (like tru2myart) or already going in (like welfy). Other things factor in as well, such as all winners so far have been female. Being friendly and helpful in posting to other peoples' entries and in the Green Room can pay off as well. This season there's an added social element of being active in the Green Room and comments to earn "gold stars" -- of which I will likely win none, because of my busy off-journal schedule. But so be it. I'll ride this horse as far as it takes me. Made it to 11th place last time.

Yes. Well, if I get voted out, then so beit. I'm not going to change what I write just because I want to mold myself to those that are reading. For me, this isn't a popularity contest, but it's just something that I can use to continue writing. If I do well, then I'll be happy, and I'll feel blessed that I've made it past each and every week. It would be nice to keep making new friends, and I'm starting to do that :).
